The majority of the words and idioms used in this work did not exist before the war.


This work examines the transformation of culture as a result of war. It uses language as a point of exploration. This work, a narrative, is made up of a glossary of Acholi words and their english translations. The majority of the words and idioms that are used in the work only emerged during and after the war to describe the lived experience of this particular war. They are now significantly and permanently fixed in the culture.



Can Ogura is an Acholi phrase that means: the problems have surrounded me.
